Welcome to St. Mawgan Preschool

“Where learning matters in the heart of the community.”

Who are we?

Situated in the Village Hall opposite the Japanese Garden in St. Mawgan, St. Mawgan Preschool has been providing quality care and education to the children of St. Mawgan and the surrounding areas.

We are OFSTED registered Charity, and we are run by a Committee of parent volunteers who take an active role in the running of the setting alongside our team of practitioners.

At St. Mawgan, we provide full care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years. We are open term time only, and we have excellent links with the surrounding primary schools including St. Mawgan-in-Pydar Primary, Nansledan and St Columb Major. Please find information about our fees and funding here.

Although we do not have our own dedicated outdoor space, we do have access to the entire village, including the park, primary school playgrounds and woods areas. We also take part in Forest School and Beach School plus external trips where possible!

“Children arrive happily and ready to learn at this welcoming and friendly pre-school”

OFSTED, 2015

What do we provide?

Our philosophy at St. Mawgan is that we believe in having strong links and good communication with parents, carers and families. We encourage parental input in their children’s education and their lives at preschool, including having parental visits to talk about their lives, jobs and cultures. We aspire to provide a safe, nurturing environment that promotes social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth for all children. We aim to help children develop and foster a love of learning, which will lead them to become critical thinkers and independent learners.

We believe in the heart of the community, and the celebration of diversity and inclusion and believe everyone has the right to a safe, diverse, enriching learning and development experience, where we foster children’s curiosity and enable them to reach their full potentials.

We employ a mix of Hygge, Reggio Emilia and Montessori techniques, following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Development Matters frameworks. At St. Mawgan we pride ourselves on our dedicated and well qualified team of staff and fantastic resources to enable children to learn, develop and play in their own way and at their own pace.

Each child is assigned a key person after an initial transition and settling period based on which member of staff they have bonded with best, this is to ensure they have developed a secure attachment with a trusted adult in setting who is there to support them and work with their parents in partnership. It is the role of the child’s key person to oversee their wellbeing, as well as to maintain their individual progress and feedback to children’s families, and we believe it is vital that children feel safe, secure and taken care of in our setting and feel supported to achieve their full potential.
